Abstract

"Just as education holds the key to the future in the new South Africa, so educational technology holds the key to the future in the SA Defence Force."

In the last few months it has become increasingly obvious that momentous changes are occurring in South Africa. From all sides of the political spectrum, political figures are making announcements and pronouncements about a "new South Africa" and the conditions which will need to be met in order to realise that ideal.

While many of the changes are occurring outside the sphere of influence of the SA Defence Force (SADF), nonetheless it is being and will be affected by those changes. One has only to think of the effects of the implementation of United Nations Resolution 435 on the role and structure of the SADF; the change in the National Service system; the release of Mr Nelson Mandela; the ongoing re-organisation to provide for these and the changes necessary to provide for the year 2000 and beyond to realise the magnitude of the effects of those changes on the SADF.
