Abstract

The article deals with ex-Burghers serving under the British in South Africa during 1902 and their reasons for supporting British Military authorities. The antagonism between the joiners and the burghers is discussed as well as the joiners' eventual disillusionment with the British government and the contempt with which their fellow countrymen treated them.
