AbstractThis essay gives a general description of the valuable and willing participation by many members of the Coloured community in the defence of South Africa throughout its military history. Today Coloured volunteers and aspirant permanent force members serve in the Cape Corps after having passed a stringent selection process. Today Coloureds also serve in the air force, navy, medical services and the commandos and many also do their bit with other South Africans in the operational area.
