RUSLAND SE GESKENK AAN DIE BOEREGENRAAL
Abstract
In die Nasionale Kultuurhistoriese- en Opelugmuseum, Pretoria is 'n kunswerk uitgestal wat onmiddellik die aandag van die besoeker trek. Dit is 'n huldeblyk van die Russiese volk aan die Boere in Suid-Afrika wat gedurende die Tweede Anglo-Boereoorlog in 1902 geskenk is. Op 'n reuse ovaalvormige voetstuk van peerhout is 'n gebeitelde portier steen rots met 'n brans perderuiter op die hoogste punt. Die geheel vorm 'n uitsonderlike kunsuiting wat enersyds bekoor vanweë die fyn detail van die verskillende dele en andersyds verstom omdat strak klassieke rondings en ruwe klip 'n onewewigtige eenheid vorm wat die versteurde orde deur die oorlog meegebring, treffend simboliseer.Copyright (c) 2018 Sophia Du Preez
