Abstract


Op 30 Mei 1900 het veldmaarskalk lord Frederick S. Roberts, KP, GCB, VC, opperbevelhebber van die Britse troepe in Suid-Afrika, die oorgawe van Johannesburg geeis. Byna 'n maand het verby gegaan nadat lord Roberts op 3 Mei van dieselfde jaar, na 'n reorganisasie en langdurige voorbereidings, besluit het om sy opmars na die noorde, met Pretoria as sy vernaamste doelwit, te begin. Wat, in die vorm van krygsverrigtings, tussen Bloemfontein en Johannesburg plaasgevind het, is in deel III van die bekende amptelike History of the War in South Africa 1899-1902, (London, 1908), gewoonlik bekend as genlmaj sir Frederick Maurice, KCB se geskiedenis, uitvoerig beskryf. Die belangstellende leser word gevolglik na bogenoemde publikasie verwys.
